Zenvo Aurora revealed with V-12 hybrid powertrain, 1,850 hp

Zenvo, a Danish company, has unveiled a brand new hypercar named the Aurora. This vehicle has been crafted from scratch and is available in two models: the track-centric Agil and the grand touring Tur.

Following the completion of the TS line of hypercars with the TSR-GT last year, the Aurora has stepped in as the successor. It has elevated its performance by incorporating more power and reducing weight.

A shift in power comes as the Aurora adopts a V-12 hybrid powertrain instead of the previous V-8 engines used in Zenvo’s older models. This new engine was designed in collaboration with Mahle and features a quad-turbocharged 6.6-liter unit that alone generates 1,250 horsepower and can rev up to 9,800 rpm.

The Aurora’s V-12 is mid-mounted and works with a single electric motor in the Agil model, producing a total of 1,450 hp. This combination is facilitated by an integrated seven-speed transmission and an electronic differential that directs power to the rear wheels in the Agil.

In contrast, the Tur model includes two more electric motors on the front axle to create an all-wheel-drive system, boosting the combined output to an astounding 1,850 hp. According to Zenvo, both models are equipped with distinct transmission tuning and engine mapping to match their respective purposes.

Jens Sverdrup, Zenvo’s Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted the careful integration of the V-12 and electric motors, aiming to merge the immediate acceleration found in electric vehicles with the smooth power flow of a naturally aspirated engine.

Performance specifications are impressive, with the Tur model boasting 0-62 mph in 2.3 seconds and a maximum speed of 280 mph, and the Agil slightly slower due to its lower horsepower and aerodynamics, though potentially faster on a race track.

The Aurora’s structure consists of a full carbon-fiber chassis with a modular design called the ZM1. This structure integrates not only the passenger area but also the front and rear sub-frames, culminating in a single, immense composite part. This construction is not only incredibly rigid and lightweight but also very safe, incorporating crash structures akin to those found in Formula 1 cars.

The car’s low weight has contributed to a dry weight of 2,866 pounds for the Agil model and 3,197 pounds for the Tur, the latter being heavier due to additional drivetrain components.

Other features include carbon-ceramic brake rotors, center-lock wheels, and the option of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 or Cup 2R tires.

Only 100 units will be manufactured, evenly split between the Agil and Tur models, with production set to begin in 2025 at Zenvo’s headquarters in Præstø, Denmark. Deliveries will commence the subsequent year, and the car will be street-legal in various global markets, including the U.S. The price, however, has not yet been announced.
