Tesla delivered an update regarding its Cybertruck pickup truck on Wednesday during an earnings call.
Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, shared that the first Cybertruck was recently assembled at the company’s Austin, Texas facility. A photograph of this Cybertruck, which Musk posted on Twitter on July 15, represented a pre-production model intended for final testing and certification. Nevertheless, Musk expressed his expectation for consumer deliveries to kick off later in 2023.

Musk subtly suggested that the initial production rates might be modest, with a forecasted increase in 2024. He highlighted the incorporation of numerous innovative technologies, unique components, and bespoke manufacturing processes into the Cybertruck.
“We plan to produce them in significant volumes next year, with deliveries starting this year,” he remarked.
The initial plan was to commence Cybertruck production in late 2021, but numerous delays resulted in a postponement of the timeline.
Final Testing Phase of Tesla Cybertruck
A more energy-dense battery cell, a notable new technology, is slated for the electric truck. Drew Baglino, Tesla’s Senior Vice President for Powertrain and Energy Engineering, mentioned during the call that the new cell boasts a 10% higher energy density than those currently in use in Tesla vehicles.
There’s no clarity yet if this new cell will allow Tesla to provide a greater driving range than previously announced. In the 2019 Cybertruck launch, Tesla unveiled that the truck would offer battery choices for more than 250 miles, over 300 miles, and beyond 500 miles.
Tesla initially announced a base price of $39,900 during the 2019 launch, but this data was removed from the Tesla website in 2021, hinting at a potential change in the starting price once the Cybertruck officially goes on sale.
Following Ford’s recent reduction of its competitor F-150 Lightning’s starting price to $56,990, Musk tweeted that the Ford was a “good vehicle” but “somewhat expensive.”
During the earnings call on Wednesday, Tesla announced that the full-sized Cybertruck would measure 19 feet long, thereby fitting in more private garages than its typically longer than 20 feet competitors. As per Tesla’s knowledge, the Cybertruck would be the pioneer truck that is less than 19 feet long with four doors and a bed extending over six feet.
