Maserati has unveiled its latest high-performance track-focused vehicle, the MCXtrema, marking a significant addition to their lineup. The debut took place at The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering during the renowned Monterey Car Week. The MCXtrema, which bears a name apt for its extreme nature, is specifically designed for track use and is not intended for legal road usage.

Davide Grasso, the CEO of Maserati, expressed the company’s intentions behind the creation of the MCXtrema. The goal was to offer an exclusive and exceptional product that could redefine the standards for their track-oriented cars. The project is geared towards a select clientele with a keen eye for unique design details, innovative aesthetics, and outstanding performance. Grasso emphasized that the MCXtrema embodies the inherent sportsmanship inherent in Maserati’s DNA, signifying a new direction for the brand that prioritizes exceptional craftsmanship and distinguishes itself in the luxury automotive world through uncompromising performance.

The MCXtrema is an evolution of the MC20 supercar and is a limited-production model, with just 62 units planned for production. These limited editions have all been reserved, and their pricing remains undisclosed.

Crafted around the MC20’s framework, the MCXtrema showcases a distinct carbon-fiber body, crafted by Maserati’s Centro Stile styling division. This new body design incorporates air intakes positioned over the exposed carbon-fiber roof, a central spine possibly for aerodynamics running from the roof to the prominent rear wing, a noticeable front splitter, and a rear diffuser. Abundant scoops and ducts are also integrated into the design. Although the car offers adjustable aerodynamic components, the specifics have not been detailed. The vehicle boasts a flat blue paint scheme and bears the number 24 on its doors, likely in reference to its original designation as Project24.

Beneath the bodywork lies the MC20’s carbon tub, developed by the motorsport chassis expert Dallara, and further enhanced by an FIA-approved roll cage to enhance structural rigidity.

The heart of the MCXtrema is its mid-mounted twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine, derived from the MC20 but fine-tuned to deliver an impressive 730 hp, an increase over the MC20’s 621 hp. Enhanced turbochargers played a pivotal role in achieving this power boost.

Although specific details about the MCXtrema’s engineering and design are limited, it has been disclosed that the car employs a 6-speed sequential transmission with paddle shifters, Brembo brakes, 18-inch forged wheels with center locks, lightweight Lexan windows, and a customizable suspension system. The car’s dry weight is hinted to be below 2,755 pounds.

Inside the MCXtrema, the driver is positioned in a central seat arrangement, with a steering wheel resembling a yoke. The cabin is equipped with various controls, presumably to fine-tune the vehicle’s systems and optimize performance for different track and weather conditions.

Maserati aims to offer an extensive range of benefits to MCXtrema owners, including access to comprehensive driver coaching courses, track experiences, and logistical support, mirroring programs provided by other prestigious brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini.
