Even though the Koenigsegg Regera is no longer being manufactured, it has made a triumphant return by reclaiming the 0-249-0 mph record, completing the feat in a stunning 28.8 seconds.

The Swedish beast of a supercar outperformed the Rimac Nevera, which had previously clocked a record time of 29.9 seconds during a performance test session in which the electric supercar set 23 new records.

Koenigsegg Regera Reestablishes 0-249-0 mph Record

Before the Rimac came onto the scene, Koenigsegg was essentially the unrivaled champion in this category. With the Agera RS, Koenigsegg set a record of 36.4 seconds for the 0-249-0 mph sprint in 2017, only to shatter that record with the Regera in 2019.

Announcing this new record, Koenigsegg pointed out in their press release that the switch to Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires gave the Regera the boost it needed to regain its title at the Örebro Airport runway, located to the west of Sweden’s capital, Stockholm. A smoother runway surface than previous testing venues also contributed to the improved time, according to Koenigsegg.

Koenigsegg Regera Reclaims 0-249-0 mph Record

First introduced at the Geneva motor show in 2015, the Regera boasts a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine and three electric motors, delivering a mind-blowing combined output of 1,500 hp and 1,475 lb-ft of torque. All that power is transmitted to the rear wheels via Koenigsegg’s innovative Direct Drive system, which replaces the conventional transmission with a hydraulic coupling and a single-speed reduction gear – a more efficient solution as per Koenigsegg’s claim.

Having manufactured 80 customer units, Koenigsegg delivered the first Regera in 2018 and concluded production in 2022. Currently, Koenigsegg’s efforts are directed towards delivering the initial models of its Jesko supercar, which also features a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 but without the hybrid system. The Jesko is capable of outputting 1,280 hp and can rev up to 8,500 rpm. No plans for record attempts have been announced for this model yet.
