Hennessey’s 1,000-hp CT5-V Blackwing Competes with Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in Drag Race

To commemorate the commencement of production for its H1000 CT5-V Blackwing, Hennessey Performance Engineering unveiled a video this week. The footage highlights the super sedan’s 1,000 horsepower as it takes on a factory-standard C8 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in a drag racing event.

Contrary to the conventional quarter-mile contest, the video presents a distinctive face-off: both high-performance V-8 automobiles engage in a 40-roll challenge.

Given that the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 comes with a stock horsepower of 670, it was inherently at a disadvantage when pitted against Hennessey’s offering.

Initially revealed in June, the H1000 CT5-V Blackwing is now in production at Hennessey’s manufacturing facility located in Sealy, Texas. The vehicle is available for purchase with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Regardless of the chosen transmission, the vehicle boasts a 0-60 mph acceleration time of approximately 2.5 seconds, and it is capable of exceeding speeds of 200 mph, as reported by Hennessey.

To elevate the car’s horsepower to four figures from its original 668-hp rating, Hennessey has implemented several significant modifications. These include a larger supercharger, re-engineered cylinder heads, newly designed intake and exhaust valves, and a variety of additional upgraded internal components for the vehicle’s 6.2-liter V-8 engine. Other enhancements comprise long-tube stainless steel exhaust headers, upgraded cooling mechanisms, and a specialized engine management system.

Hennessey also provides its distinct wheel designs and personalized emblems, along with a host of interior customization options.

The CT5-V Blackwing was introduced as part of the 2022 model year lineup, alongside its less potent sibling, the CT4-V Blackwing, which features a twin-turbocharged V-6 engine. Hennessey plans to roll out a series of updates for the entire CT5 range for the 2025 model year. This will include an upgraded version of the CT5-V Blackwing, expected to be unveiled in the lead-up to its market launch next spring.
