Unveiling of the 2024 Nissan Z Nismo with 420 horsepower

In 2023, a remodelled Nissan Z sports car made its debut, and in its second year of existence, it has birthed a track-centric Nismo variant.

The reveal of the 2024 Nissan Z Nismo took place on Monday night, preceding its anticipated sales commencement this coming fall. Details on the pricing are expected to be shared nearer to the start of sales.

Overview of Nissan Sentra

The standard Z, right off the bat, is packed with impressive performance attributes. However, the Nismo version takes it a notch higher, infusing a fiercer edge and introducing distinct aesthetic touches to both its interior and exterior.

The primary upgrade is an increase in power drawn from the Z’s 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbocharged engine. The Z Nismo boasts of peak outputs of 420 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque, a 20 hp and 34 lb-ft increase from the regular Z. Moreover, there is an enhanced cooling mechanism for the engine oil, a crucial aspect for long track days.

The only available transmission is a 9-speed automatic, as the 6-speed manual available in the standard Z is absent. According to Nissan, this 9-speed version provides swifter and more vibrant shifts than in the regular Z, attributed to distinct software settings triggered by a Sport+ mode exclusive to the Z Nismo. With this setup, Nissan asserts that there’s no need for drivers to engage the paddle shifters during track sessions as the Sport+ mode’s programming ensures sufficient transmission response speed.

The regular Z’s ride and drive are somewhat softer than previous models, enhancing road comfort but compromising track performance. The Z Nismo addresses this with the introduction of new stabilizer bars, bigger dampers, and harder springs. Enhanced body reinforcements also contribute to the car’s overall stiffness and rigidity, allowing it to handle increased cornering forces better. Critical modifications encompass additional bracing, more rigid suspension bushings, and a stiffer bushing for mounting the steering rack.

The Z Nismo comes with 19-inch wheels from Rays, fitted with chunky 285/35 Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT600 tires at the back. These wheels are wider by a half-inch than the 19-inch wheels of the Z’s Performance grade, sizing at 10.0 inches at the front and 10.5 inches at the back. However, Nissan claims that these larger wheels are actually lighter. Bigger brakes with 15.0-inch front and 13.8-inch rear rotors are tucked within.

The Z Nismo stands out with its unique front design featuring a fresh fascia and grille style, aptly termed by Nissan as the Grand Nose, or G Nose for brevity. The car also flaunts chunky side skirts, a distinct rear fascia, and a bigger rear wing, along with front flics. Red accents signify its Nismo lineage.

The Z Nismo’s interior showcases Recaro bucket seats with harness-ready holes. A Nismo-specific design graces the digital gauge cluster, and a red engine start button is now present. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather and Alcantara, topped off with a red stripe at the 12 o’clock position.
