Polestar announced this Tuesday that its Polestar 3 model has entered the ultimate phase of testing.

This conclusive testing stage is being conducted in the United Arab Emirates, where the temperature has escalated to peaks of 122 degrees Fahrenheit (50 degrees Celsius), as revealed by the automotive company.

Overview of Polestar 2

The Polestar 3 had its initial unveiling in the previous autumn and was originally slated for deliveries this year. However, the vehicle faced a series of software challenges, forcing Polestar to postpone the commencement of production until the first half of 2024. The related Volvo EX90 also suffered from similar software complications. Volvo is presently forecasting that production of the EX90 will also initiate in the first half of 2024.

The starting price of the Polestar 3 has been confirmed at $85,300, inclusive of a $1,400 destination fee. The electric mid-size SUVs have been showcased at various Polestar locations, including 31 outlets across North America. Test drive units, however, will only be accessible in 2024.

2024 Polestar 3 Production Details

Manufacturing for the North American market is slated to occur at Volvo’s Charleston, South Carolina facility, where the Volvo S60 is currently being assembled. Production for the Chinese market will also be locally managed.

The architecture of the Polestar 3 leverages Volvo’s novel SPA2 platform, which is initially designed for electric vehicles but is also compatible with hybrid powertrains. Upon its launch, the model will feature a dual-motor powertrain, offering a standard 489 horsepower and an optional 517 horsepower via a Performance Pack. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph is anticipated to be 4.9 seconds as standard and 4.6 seconds with the Performance Pack, with a maximum speed of 130 mph for both configurations.

The singular battery option will be a 111-kWh unit, which Polestar projects will provide an EPA-rated range of 300 miles.

Upcoming Polestar Models

Polestar is set to introduce its Polestar 4 compact crossover in the coming year. Other future additions to the portfolio include a Polestar 5 sedan expected next year, a Polestar 6 roadster targeted for a 2026 release, and an undisclosed model known as the Polestar 7, which is projected for a 2027 launch.
