In 2025, Audi is in the final stages of testing its forthcoming electric crossover, positioned between the Q5 and Q7 models. This electrified SUV bears the moniker “Q6 E-Tron” and will offer customers a choice between standard and sportier coupe-like Sportback body styles. Furthermore, enthusiasts may anticipate potential performance-oriented iterations such as the SQ6 E-Tron or even an RS Q6 E-Tron.

The Q6 E-Tron shares its underpinnings with the electric Porsche Macan, currently in the development pipeline. Both vehicles are designed based on the Volkswagen Group’s cutting-edge PPE platform tailored for premium electric vehicles. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen delays, these models are now projected to hit the market only in early 2024, likely as 2025 models in the United States. Originally, the Q6 E-Tron was slated for a 2022 release, and the Macan EV was expected in 2023.

The Q6 E-Tron is set to make its debut before its Porsche counterpart, with the unveiling anticipated toward the year’s end. The Macan EV is scheduled to follow shortly in the new year.

Recent prototypes of the Q6 E-Tron have significantly shed their camouflage, revealing a design akin to the recently launched Q4 E-Tron, albeit in a larger form. A notable addition to the Q6 E-Tron’s design, unique to the Audi brand, is a divided headlight configuration. The daytime running lights and indicators are positioned above, while the primary projector resides below. Owners will have the ability to customize the light signatures of the daytime running lights and certain elements of the taillights.

In September, Audi offered a sneak peek of the Q6 E-Tron’s interior design. The dashboard features a curved panel angled towards the driver, incorporating an 11.9-inch digital gauge cluster and a 14.5-inch infotainment screen with touchscreen functionality. The infotainment system represents a fresh Android-based design developed by Cariad, Volkswagen Group’s software division, complete with its own app store. An augmented reality-equipped head-up display is also expected, likely as an optional feature.

The Q6 E-Tron appears to be slightly larger than the Q5, paralleling the size difference between the Q4 E-Tron and the Q3. Consequently, the vehicle is expected to offer a five-seat configuration exclusively.

While specific powertrain details remain undisclosed, it is known that the PPE platform will incorporate an 800-volt electrical system and offer a range exceeding 300 miles. As for the Macan EV, it will utilize a 98-kWh battery pack with an electric motor on each axle. At least one Macan EV variant is expected to deliver more than 603 horsepower, a figure that may also find its way into the aforementioned SQ6 E-Tron or RS Q6 E-Tron.

Production of the Q6 E-Tron will take place at Audi’s facility in Ingolstadt, Germany, which is being prepared for the production of PPE-based vehicles and batteries.

This vehicle’s introduction aligns with Audi’s ambitious plan to introduce 20 new or updated vehicles by the conclusion of 2025, with a majority of them being electric. Beyond 2026, Audi envisions an exclusive focus on electric vehicle launches.
