On Thursday, JLR (previously known as Jaguar Land Rover) revealed that a second batch of the 2023 Defender Trophy Edition SUVs is set to launch. This new edition will feature the expanded Defender 130 body style.

230 of these SUVs are planned for production, with 220 designated for the U.S. market and the remaining 10 for Canada. Similar to earlier Trophy Editions, the purchase includes an invitation for buyers to participate in an off-road racing competition.

JLR has only given a sneak peek of the Land Rover Discovery Sport but confirmed that orders will open later in August, with the starting price at $103,000, not including destination charges.

The company had previously launched a Trophy Edition based on the compact Defender 90 body style for 2023, and in 2022, a Trophy Edition was released using the intermediate Defender 110 body style.

The newest version, exclusive to the Defender 130 body style, comes in the P400 SE grade, which combines a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine with a mild-hybrid system to generate a maximum of 395 horsepower. The vehicle is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission that drives all four wheels.

The Trophy Edition celebrates the Camel Trophy, an off-road race that was held from 1981 to 2000 and primarily sponsored by the Camel cigarette company. Land Rover’s vehicles were often successful in this race, usually bearing a signature yellow color scheme. This livery, without the Camel logo, was duplicated in previous Trophy Editions and is expected to be continued in the newest model.

Additional features for the latest version include leather trim, customized badges, and adventure accessories like a roof rack, roof box, ladder, electronic winch, mud flaps, wheel arch and underbody shields, and rubber floor mats.

Purchasers of the new Defender Trophy Edition will get a chance to try out these features in a one-day off-road contest scheduled near Austin, Texas, in late October. Teams of two will compete, and the victorious team will win an off-road adventure vacation in South Africa. Participation is restricted as only 90 teams will have the opportunity to compete.
