BMW’s iconic 4-Series lineup is set to receive an impressive facelift, starting with the sleek coupe variant.

Recently spotted during track testing at the renowned Nürburgring, the upcoming 2024 BMW 4-Series will showcase refreshed front and rear designs, alongside a revamped interior and cutting-edge technology enhancements.

Building upon the successful 2021 redesign, this mid-cycle update takes a more subtle approach. Camouflage expertly conceals only the front and rear sections, with particular attention given to the headlights, taillights, and rear diffuser. Anticipate angular daytime running lights, incorporating vertical elements within the headlights, and a more pronounced rear diffuser. M Sport models will sport mirrors inspired by the M4.

However, the iconic, and somewhat controversial, kidney grilles remain intact.

BMW engineers meticulously concealed the dashboard from prying eyes during the car’s stationary moments. Nonetheless, insiders suggest that the latest BMW iDrive infotainment system will be seamlessly integrated with a digital gauge cluster, both housed under a sleek curved screen atop the dashboard. Physical buttons will be minimized, possibly leaving room only for a volume knob.

Built on BMW’s CLAR platform, the 4-Series maintains its wider, longer, and lower dimensions compared to its sibling, the 3-Series sedan.

Base models are expected to retain the 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine, delivering an estimated 255 horsepower and 294 lb-ft of torque. The more potent M440i models will feature the tried-and-true 3.0-liter turbo-6, complemented by a mild-hybrid system generating around 382 horsepower and 364 lb-ft of torque. This innovative hybrid system recovers energy during braking, thanks to an integrated starter motor and generator.

Confirming recent rumors, a BMW M executive has officially announced the discontinuation of dual-clutch automatic and manual transmissions within the lineup, even for M-specific models. Consequently, the forthcoming refresh will maintain the 8-speed automatic transmission as the sole option for the current 4-Series.

Following the 4-Series coupe’s revamp, the electric i4 model, 4-Series convertible, and M4 variants will receive their respective updates, completing the comprehensive refresh of the entire 4-Series lineup.
