Introducing the Imagined Triumph EV: A Modern Sports Car

In 1994, when BMW acquired the Rover Group, several iconic brands such as Triumph, Austin, MG, Morris, Riley, and Rover came under their ownership, alongside Mini and Land Rover. Over time, BMW divested most of these brands, but Triumph remained in their portfolio.

Although there are currently no indications of BMW reviving the Triumph brand, a London-based design house called Makkina has envisioned a contemporary Triumph sports car with their TR25 concept. Makkina specifically chose the Triumph brand to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first Triumph car ever produced, the 10/20, while also celebrating their own 25th anniversary this year.

The TR25 concept, with BMW’s endorsement, draws design inspiration from the 1950s Triumph TR2, particularly the streamlined variant used for high-speed runs near Jebbeke, Belgium. In 1953, Ken Richardson achieved a record-breaking speed of 124.889 mph in one of these cars, earning the title for cars under two liters that year.

Similar to Richardson’s car, which now resides in the British Motor Museum in Gaydon, U.K., the TR25 concept features a single-seat layout, with the passenger area sealed off to enhance aerodynamics. However, a flip-out jump seat is located beneath the removable panel, providing the option for a passenger. Additionally, the concept includes a roll bar for driver protection in the event of an accident.

Powering the TR25 concept is an electric powertrain sourced from the BMW i3s. The rear-mounted electric motor generates 184 hp, reminiscent of the car’s spirited performance.

Inside the cabin, a self-centering dial integrated into the steering wheel conveniently displays essential information. Behind the steering wheel, a second display, referred to as a binnacle by Makkina, provides supplementary details like remaining charge and range.

At present, there is no information regarding plans for a production version of the TR25 concept.
