Porsche Carrera GTZ

An exceptional Porsche Carrera GTZ that was listed for sale on the online automotive marketplace, Carhuna, was successfully auctioned off earlier this month.

According to GT Spirit, the final bid placed for the car was 1.45 million British pounds (equivalent to about $1.86 million), just slightly under the base estimate of 1.5 million British pounds. However, the ultimate price paid will be somewhat higher due to the mandatory buyer’s premium.

This final amount exceeded the market price for an average Porsche Carrera GT, a testament to the rarity of this vehicle. The GTZ model is distinguished by the Z in its name, signifying that it’s one of only six Carrera GTs (including the original prototype) that were redesigned by the Italian automotive design company, Zagato, in the previous decade.

The origin of the Carrera GTZ can be traced back to 2013 when a Carrera GT owner from Switzerland commissioned Zagato to replace the standard rear deck of the Porsche supercar, with its mesh-covered humps, with a more subdued design that aligned with the roof.

Although most of the body was restructured by Zagato, the alterations are subtler than those seen in the company’s more recent works. As per Zagato, the objective was to develop a sleeker rear that mirrors the design efforts put into the Porsche 356.

Another five Carrera GT owners also opted for Zagato’s modification, the cost of which was equivalent to the price of another Carrera GT at the time. The vehicle that was recently auctioned was the fourth out of these five additional conversions and the sole one to also have its interior revamped.

Despite these cosmetic changes, the powertrain of all these cars remained untouched. Consequently, the Carrera GT’s resonant 5.7-liter V-10 continues to deliver 603 hp, which is conveyed to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox. This setup enables the car to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, reaching a peak speed of about 205 mph.

The car in question initially began its journey as a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, initially delivered to a client in the U.S. As per the original Carhuna listing, the car had covered just 9,350 miles.
