Bentley Batur

On Tuesday, Bentley made the announcement that the development phase for the exclusive Batur coupe has reached its conclusion. This significant milestone sets the stage for the commencement of customer car production later this year.

Although only 18 examples will be manufactured for customers, the Batur underwent a meticulous development process involving two test cars, referred to as Car Zero and Car Zero-Zero. The testing program, which commenced in late 2022, encompassed a comprehensive European tour spanning approximately 1,500 miles, rigorous high-speed trials reaching speeds of up to 200 mph, and over 600 hours of solar loading—equivalent to the conditions experienced in the Arizona desert over five years.

Bentley Batur Testing

Unveiled during the prestigious 2022 Monterey Car Week, the Batur follows in the footsteps of the Bacalar convertible as the latest addition to Bentley’s lineup of handcrafted special projects. Serving as a bridge between Bentley’s legacy of internal combustion engines and its electrified future, the Batur is based on the Bentley Continental GT Speed. However, its distinctive design provides a glimpse into the forthcoming electric models, with the first anticipated to launch in 2025.

Given its foundation on the Continental GT Speed, the Batur employs Bentley’s renowned twin-turbo 6.0-liter W-12 engine. In the case of the Batur, the powertrain has been finely tuned to generate an impressive output of 730 horsepower and 740 lb-ft of torque, establishing it as the most powerful Bentley ever produced for public roads. Achieving this enhanced performance involved various enhancements, including a new air intake, modified turbochargers, revised intercoolers, and meticulous testing spanning over 100 weeks of development, as stated by Bentley.

In addition to performance advancements, Bentley has also strived to incorporate sustainable materials and innovative craftsmanship techniques into the Batur. Natural fibers and 3D-printed gold interior trim, derived from recycled jewelry, represent Bentley’s commitment to sustainability. A noteworthy industry first, up to 210 grams of 18-carat gold have been utilized for the drive mode selector, vent controls, and steering-wheel insert. These components underwent extensive testing, evaluating factors such as thermal loading and resistance to sunscreen.

All 18 Batur production cars have been spoken for, with Bentley anticipating a completion timeline of approximately four months per car. The final Batur is expected to be finished by the end of 2024.
