Maserati announces its comeback to motorsport this year, launching a new GT2-spec racing car inspired by its MC20 supercar.
The new race car, known officially as the Maserati GT2, was introduced on Friday during the 24 Hours of Spa, a key event in the SRO-approved GT World Challenge Europe.

The series caters to GT3-spec vehicles, but the Maserati GT2 will participate in the SRO’s GT2 European Series. This series accommodates customer teams and includes race cars modelled after the Audi R8, KTM X-Bow, Mercedes-Benz AMG, Porsche 911, and more.

2023 Maserati GT2 Racing Car
The GT2 is intricately related to the MC20 road car. It employs the same turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine (performance is contingent on Balance of Performance), although the race car integrates a more radical aerodynamic design with enlarged side intakes and an adjustable rear wing attached through swan-neck struts. The race car’s body shell is entirely comprised of lightweight composite materials. The body panels are designed for quick release to facilitate swift part replacement, as stated by Maserati. The fenders, redesigned to fit a wider track, have louvers up front and larger side intakes at the rear aimed at radiators.
Distinctive features of the race car include the suspension components (adjustable dampers and adjustable anti-roll bars), 6-speed sequential transmission, quick-release steering wheel, and a 6.5-inch driver information display. A unique ABS system can be fine-tuned by the driver from the driver’s seat.

The GT2 has a legacy to uphold. The predecessor of the MC20, the Ferrari Enzo-based MC12, was a contestant in the FIA GT Series during the 2000s and came out victorious in three 24 Hours of Spa races (2005, 2006, and 2008).
