Last week, Audi introduced a specialized rendition of its high-performance electric sedan, the RS E-Tron GT Ice Race Edition, to honor the 40th anniversary of its Audi Sport division.

The vehicle is designed not just as a tribute to Audi Sport but also to signify Audi’s backing of the GP Ice Race. This is an annual automotive event that is held during the winter season on Austria’s frozen Lake Zell. The chosen color scheme is intended to symbolize the festival, featuring silver and white to mimic the snow, and purple to evoke the imagery of ski goggles.

The external design of the vehicle is rounded out with 21-inch black wheels and a roof made from carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic.

While the interior details have yet to be disclosed, Audi has indicated that the color distribution gives an impression of a four-seat configuration, despite the car actually having five seats. The color palette for the interior comprises silver and black, with purple utilized for various accents such as contrast stitching.

The steering wheel integrates leather and Alcantara materials and includes a silver marker at the 12 o’clock position. The car’s infotainment system also boasts custom graphics, one of which showcases a distinctive serial number, a feature that is generally displayed on a physical plaque.

There are no modifications to the vehicle’s mechanical specifications. Consistent with the entire RS E-Tron GT lineup, this limited edition model employs a dual-motor powertrain that delivers a maximum of 637 horsepower, enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.1 seconds.

This special edition is limited to just 99 units, all of which are designated for the European market.

Audi Sport was initially founded in 1983 under the name Audi Quattro. Over the years, it has evolved to oversee other ventures, such as customer racing and bespoke customization through Audi Exclusive. A rebranding to Audi Sport in 2016 further established the division as it broadened its reach into new markets, avoiding any potential confusion with Audi’s Quattro nomenclature for its all-wheel-drive systems.

Audi Sport history is fascinating! Audi Quattro in ’83, name change in 2016, cool trivia. Would be awesome if they did a special edition for that too.
