The original Hispano Suiza ceased automobile production in 1946. However, in the latter part of the last decade, Miguel Suqué Mateu, the great-grandson of Damián Mateu, one of the co-founders of the original company, successfully revived the brand. In 2019, the modern company introduced its initial product, the Carmen, an electric hypercar renowned for its carbon-fiber construction and impressive peak power output of 1,000 horsepower. Subsequently, in 2020, a more high-performance version, the Carmen Boulogne, was unveiled, featuring an additional 100 horsepower and performance enhancements tailored for the racetrack.
The Carmen Sagrera is anticipated to deliver an extended range compared to its predecessors. This improvement will be achieved through the utilization of a more efficient 103-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery and enhanced aerodynamics, as officially confirmed by Hispano Suiza. To provide context, the original Carmen was equipped with an 80-kWh battery, offering an estimated range of approximately 250 miles.
Sergio Martínez Campos, CEO of Hispano Suiza, revealed that the Carmen Sagrera will not only usher in improved performance but also establish a new design direction that the brand will follow in the years ahead.
Although Hispano Suiza has not disclosed the exact production numbers for the Carmen Sagrera, it’s worth noting that production of its predecessors was highly limited. Only 14 units of the original Carmen were manufactured, along with five of the Carmen Boulogne. Notably, one of these exclusive vehicles was delivered last year to Michael Fux, a renowned car collector and the CEO and founder of Comfort Revolution, a prominent mattress company.
