Unveiling of the 2025 Mini John Cooper Works Countryman with 312 Horsepower

The freshly redesigned Mini Countryman, which made its first appearance at the Munich auto show in 2023, has recently introduced its high-performance counterpart, the John Cooper Works (JCW) model.

The launch took place on a Thursday, with the 2025 Mini John Cooper Works Countryman set to hit American dealerships by next May.

The vehicle carries an entry-level price tag of $47,895, which encompasses a $995 fee for delivery.

In this latest iteration, Mini provides consumers with a selection of either electric or gasoline powertrains. While there are plans for electric JCW versions, the current JCW Countryman retains a combustion engine — the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder found in the prior model.

This powerplant now produces 312 horsepower, enabling the compact crossover to accelerate from a standstill to 62 mph in just 5.4 seconds, and reach a maximum speed of 155 mph, as governed. The JCW Countryman’s propulsion system is rounded out with an eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive setup. Compared to its predecessor’s 308 horsepower, the new model has also grown in size, stretching to 174 inches in length (which is 5.1 inches more) and standing 2.4 inches taller at 63.5 inches.

Standard on the new JCW Countryman are 19-inch wheels designed for aerodynamic efficiency, with an optional 20-inch variant. These wheels are equipped with high-performance tires measuring 245 mm in width. The vehicle’s distinct appearance is further enhanced by a specialized grille, quad exhaust tips, and checkered flag patterns. A redesigned JCW emblem also makes its debut, adorning various parts of the exterior and interior.

Enhanced braking systems have been confirmed by Mini for this model, and it is anticipated that the car will inherit a host of performance-oriented features from the outgoing version, such as a sport-tuned suspension, more responsive steering, and potentially a limited-slip differential.

The cabin of the 2025 JCW Countryman maintains the minimalist aesthetic seen across the Countryman line, but it distinguishes itself with a JCW-specific red and black color scheme, distinct branding, and contoured sports seating. The JCW variant also boasts unique graphics on its infotainment system.

The JCW Countryman comes fully equipped with an array of electronic driving aids. Utilizing four cameras for a complete view around the vehicle and 12 ultrasonic sensors, the system includes an automated highway assist that can operate independently within a lane at speeds up to 37 mph, though it still requires the driver’s attention.

For those drawn to electric propulsion without sacrificing sportiness, Mini plans to release a performance-oriented Countryman SE with an estimated 308 horsepower. An entry-level Countryman E, with 188 horsepower, will also be available. These electric variants are slated to arrive in the U.S. by the following fall. Both electric and gasoline models will be manufactured at the BMW Group’s Regensburg facility in Germany, which is also the production site for the BMW X1, a related compact crossover.
