BMW Group CEO, Oliver Zipse, has announced that a new BMW 5-Series will be arriving in October and an electric version (called the i5) is coming with it. Prototypes for both of these cars have already been seen out testing and there are also prototypes for two other cars — an i5 Touring wagon and a brand new M5 super sedan. The i5 Touring will come next spring while the latest M5 needs to wait until later in 2021.

BMW M is releasing the i5, which will be their top-selling vehicle in 2022. This new 5-Series car should arrive sometime during 2024, but it won’t probably reach the U.S. due to how BMW doesn’t like selling wagons there. The M5 model may however still come here as a 2025 model year arrival.

The BMW 5-Series has come out with its 8th generation and it’s bigger, better and more modern than ever! It’ll be faster, smoother to drive and feature a digital dashboard with a new version of iDrive called 8.5. This will make using the interface even easier and more streamlined than before.

The new car is based on BMW Group’s latest platform for rear-wheel-drive vehicles. It will have regular gas and diesel engines as well as mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric components. The vehicle will be built at the 50 year old BMW factory in Dingolfing, Germany which also produces the 7-Series, 8-Series, and iX cars.

BMW has confirmed that the redesigned X2 compact crossover coming out later this year will have an electric version called the iX2.
