The EV startup, Rivian, recently released their Performance Dual-Motor Powertrain option that made it easier for customers to choose the car they want. This 700-hp powertrain costs $5,000 and gives both their R1T full-size pickup truck and R1S three-row SUV a very quick acceleration of 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds!

Rivian’s Dual-Motor powertrain can give you 600 horsepower and will let you go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. The more expensive Quad-Motor powertrain delivers 835 hp and will make you accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds.

The Performance Dual-Motor has the biggest battery pack: 180 kWh, so it is ideal for those who want a lot of performance as well as range. The Quad-Motor powertrain only comes with the 135 kWh battery pack – which is still large but not as big as the one offered by Performance Dual-Motor.

If you bought the Quad-Motor powertrain and Max Pack battery before December, then you will be given the Performance Dual-Motor powertrain and Max Pack battery instead.

Rivian plans to put an upgraded powertrain, which they call “Max Pack”, in the R1T car sometime soon and it is likely that the same thing will be put in their R1S model as both cars are quite similar.

Rivian has an amazing feature that both of their Dual-Motor and Performance Dual-Motor powertrains have the same range. For the R1T, this maximum range is 400 miles and for the R1S it’s 390 miles if you choose to get the Max Pack battery.
