Porsche Unveils Limited-Edition 911 GT3 R Rennsport With a Starting Price Above $1 Million

During the most recent Rennsport Reunion event at Laguna Seca, Porsche introduced its pinnacle track-focused 911 variant, the 911 GT3 R Rennsport. This highly limited model, with only 77 units slated for production, comes with a base price of $1,046,000. Freed from the constraints of racing regulations, this vehicle stands as one of the most track-optimized 911s ever constructed by the automaker. The company had earlier revealed a similar masterpiece, the updated 935 model, at the 2018 edition of Rennsport Reunion.

Noteworthy aspects of the car include a reimagined front intake design, a camera system supplanting traditional side mirrors, and a rear wing influenced by the iconic 935/77 model previously campaigned by Brumos Racing. The car is also equipped with custom 18-inch center-lock wheels from BBS, wrapped in specially compounded Michelin tires that Porsche claims outperform competitors in terms of warm-up and drivability. The vehicle also features robust AP aluminum monobloc racing brakes, with titanium-backed pads contributing to a weight reduction of approximately 2.2 pounds in unsprung mass.

Engine and Performance

The vehicle is powered by a 4.2-liter flat-6 engine, similar to the GT3 R. However, the absence of regulatory restrictions has allowed engineers to increase the horsepower to an impressive 611 hp, up from the GT3 R’s peak output of 557 hp. The engine can rev up to 9,400 rpm and is fitted with specially engineered pistons and camshafts.

Acoustic Signature and Chassis

The vehicle’s auditory experience is akin to the former 911 RSR race cars, per Porsche’s statement. However, the sound profile will vary depending on the equipped exhaust system, three options for which are available. The vehicle’s chassis remains largely unaltered from the GT3 R, featuring five-way adjustable KW dampers. Porsche allows for fine-tuning the suspension through shims, eliminating the need for extensive suspension measurements. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 6-speed sequential gearbox, with a reconfigured sixth gear enabling a top speed 12 mph higher than the GT3 R’s FIA-regulated ratio.

Interior and Exterior Customization Options

Inside, the vehicle boasts features like display screens for the side camera feed, unique central display graphics, and a limited-edition identifier on the dashboard. An ambient lighting package is also available, complementing the car’s color-adjustable main headlights. For the exterior, buyers have the option of selecting from seven standard paint colors and three additional designs inspired by classic racing liveries. One such option is the Flacht Design, which is a red and white color palette inspired by traditional Porsche Motorsport colors. The design’s name is derived from the Flacht region of Weissach, the location of Porsche’s motorsport division.
