The Mercedes-Benz AMG One, an awesome hypercar, just set a new speed record at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza racetrack in Italy. Professional driver Maro Engel drove it around the 3.6 mile track in 1:43.902 minutes, a full 12 seconds quicker than the previous record!

Mercedes recently broke a car record while driving their amazing One model. Before Mercedes got the fastest time, it is believed that Porsche’s 911 GT3 RS held the previous record. The One was 8.4 seconds faster than it; setting its new time at 6:35.183 while being driven around the Nürburgring last November! Mercedes only plan to make 275 examples of this incredible vehicle, and they have already sent off the first delivery to Germany in January.

Although many customers in the United States were able to buy it, AMG couldn’t guarantee that the car would work properly and with its F1 engine without any problems. Unfortunately, Americans will not be able to purchase this vehicle. But there is a rule for U.S. buyers called Show or Display which could help them get the car on American soil.

The car runs on a combination of a V-6 engine and three electric motors. This particular V-6 engine is the same one used in Mercedes’ winning Formula 1 race car from 2015. The One has two extra motors that drive the front wheels compared to the F1 car and this gives it all-wheel drive, which is really cool! With all these motors, the car can reach up to 1,049 hp, but that comes at a hefty weight of 3,737 pounds – much heavier than your average two-seater.

The performance of this car is amazing — it can go from 0 to 62 mph in a stunning 2.9 seconds, and its top speed is limited to 219 mph due to the way it’s designed aerodynamically.
