Numerous firms, some quite well-known, specialize in restoring classic Porsche 911s while also upgrading certain parts of the vehicle to meet modern standards, an approach termed ‘restomodding’.

Recently, this trend has started to encompass classics from other manufacturers. The most recent example is Eccentrica Cars, an Italian startup whose maiden project entails a restomod of the Lamborghini Diablo.

Overview of Porsche 911

The revamped automobile, set to debut on July 6th, will boast increased width and power compared to the original Diablo that was introduced to the market in 1990.

Emanuel Colombini, the brain behind the project, has teased some shots of the revamped Diablo on Eccentrica’s Instagram page. These images depict a sleek, contemporary design that resonates with some features of the Murciélago, the successor of the Diablo. The classic pop-up headlights will be replaced with up-to-date LED units, and significant updates are planned for the rear part of the vehicle as well.

As reported by Secret-Classics last month, Eccentrica is employing conventional coach-building techniques for the body alterations, including aluminum hammering and rolling. One of the primary objectives of widening the car, and its track, is reportedly to address the vehicle’s propensity to understeer.

The initial 5.7-liter V-12 engine that was present in the early Diablo models (later versions received a 6.0-liter engine upgrade) will remain behind the cabin. Secret-Classics reported that the engine will undergo modifications including a lighter crankshaft, larger valves, and performance camshafts, as well as a new intake system equipped with four throttle bodies in lieu of two. The aim is to achieve an output of 600 hp, a significant increase from the original 5.7-liter engine’s 485-hp rating.

The restomod is also reported to feature enhancements such as an upgraded braking system and new gear ratios for the Diablo’s 5-speed manual transmission.
