Next week at the Bangkok auto show, Techart, a German car tuner company, will be releasing their new series of upgrades called “Flyweight”. The name comes from boxing which means lightweight, agility and speed. They used a Porsche 911 Turbo S-based GT Street R with all the Flyweight upgrades to showcase how powerful it is.

The GT Street R Flyweight is a super special car that only 19 people can get. To make it really cool, the engineers focused on three things when making it: the aerodynamics (how fast it could go), the chassis (the frame and body of the car) and how lightweight it was.

For the aerodynamics of this car, there are some new features. It has a carbon-fiber front splitter, special vents on the front fenders, extensions around the wheels and a huge rear wing. The rear wing is different because it has air intakes on top and you can adjust it with three settings to achieve better aerodynamics so that it performs better in certain racetracks.

To make the car lighter, the engineers replaced many of its parts with lightweight materials. For example, a polycarbonate rear window was added as well as Recaro carbon-fiber seats which weigh much less at 10.8 pounds per shell. The locks on the hood and rear air intake panel were switched to quick-release fasteners that are also light in weight. The back seats were removed and swapped with a carbon replacements, and a roll bar and six-point harness system was put in the back. With these changes made, it is estimated that over 132 pounds can be saved in comparison to a stock model with similar features.

Techart added custom-tuned suspension to the chassis that you can adjust to be higher or lower, softer or harder. They also made special wishbones for the front axle which helps make it easier to control the wheels. The wheels are by Techart too, they’re called Formula VI Race Flyweight and they’re 20 inches at the front and 21 at the back – plus they have Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires on them.

The Street R’s powertrain has a turbo 3.8-liter flat-6 engine that produces an incredible 800 horsepower and 700 pounds of torque. This power comes from increased turbochargers, higher flow air filters as well as remapping of the ECU.

This setup can reach speeds of 0 to 62 mph in 2.5 seconds and 0 to 124 mph in 7.5 seconds with a maximum speed of more than 217 mph!
