GM Multistow Tailgate: The Latest Innovation in Automotive Tailgates

General Motors already has something called the MultiPro tailgate, but now they’re making another new one to look better than their competitors in Detroit.

GM recently filed a trademark application with the name “Multistow” on February 16th, 2023. This was for special tailgates that will be used on cars and other land vehicles.

GM started a trend to make tailgates more useful. It created the MultiPro Tailgate for the GMC Sierra and Hummer EV first, while the Chevrolet Silverado has its own version called Multi-Flex. For both cars, you can find 6 different arrangements of the tailgate that come in handy. The center section is movable and can be used as a stop for your load, a step to climb up, or even a workspace to do some work.

We don’t know exactly what the GM Multistow tailgate is, but it looks like it might be a type of truck tailgate that has features that help you to store things. The 2023 Chevy Colorado comes with something called the StowFlex tailgate which has a tiny storage space in its middle (as seen in the picture). It could be that the GM Multistow is a similar model, only for bigger trucks.

GM is considering making something similar to Ram’s RamBox bedsider storage bins. One of the advantages that the Ram has over GM is that you can open its tailgate in two parts so it’s easier to access the bed. On the other hand, GM’s tailgate only opens one way.

It looks like car companies are trying to compete with each other by adding cool features to the tailgate of their vehicles. Ford came out with an idea for a three-piece tailgate and Rivian has also come up with some ideas, including folding and telescoping tailgates and a step that can come out of the tailgate.

GM is creating new Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV pickups with a special “midgate” feature. Ram also plans to produce their own electric truck, the Ram 1500 REV, which will be ready in 2024.
