The Chevrolet Silverado HD has been relaunched for the 2024 model year, and this updated version includes a new grade known as the ZR2. The ZR2 trucks are made by the brand especially for off-road driving, so you can take your Silverado HD ZR2 on any kind of terrain while still being able to tow or transport your heavy items.

The new Chevy truck will only come in two versions: regular ZR2 and the specially made ZR2 Bison. The Bison is designed with help from American Expedition Vehicles with cool upgrades to make the truck off-road ready and more resistant to adventure.

The Silverado HD ZR2 comes with special parts like different dampers, control arms, wheels and even a rear e-locker. It also has bigger skid plates, 35-inch Goodyear tires and sits 1.5 inches higher than other Silverado HD trucks.

Both versions of this vehicle come with something called Off-Road driving mode. This mode changes some of the vehicle systems, such as the brakes and control for traction and stability, to make them more appropriate for off-road use. It also adjusts the way your engine uses gas and shifts gears.

The Bison features special additions such as 18-inch AEV wheels, steel bumpers with areas where you can easily attach a rope or a winch (just the front end), custom logos and designs on the inside, and strong metal plates placed around the vehicle’s steering rack, transfer case and exhaust.

This vehicle comes with either a 6.6-liter V-8 engine or a special 6.6-liter turbodiesel V-8 which is perfect for towing heavy objects. The truck can tug up to 18,500 pounds if the diesel-powered engine is equipped properly. All models come with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Chevy said they added materials inside the Silverado HD which are easy to clean after a day spent outside on an off-roading adventure. You can also get a special head-up display that shows you how steep or tilted the terrain is when driving, plus a camera setup so you know what’s happening around your vehicle. Starting this summer, it will be made at General Motors’ plant in Flint, Michigan and we’ll have more pricing details then.

This year, GMC is releasing their new 2020 Sierra HD model which will have an AT4X grade that’s great for off-roading. GMC won’t tell us much until later this year.
